Orvillecopter takes flight: Cat run over by car gets extra life… as a remote-controlled helicopter
A cat, a helicopter, or a piece of art? The Orvillecopter by Dutch artist Bart Jansen is all of that!
Jansen’s beloved pet cat Orville – named after pioneering aviator Orville Wright – is following in the steps of its namesake. When the cat was killed by a car, Jansen turned it into a helicopter. (Photos: Cris Toala Olivares/Reuters)Speechless
I AM NOT A HIPSTER is indie film that has had very favorable reactions to its screening at the Sundance Film Festival 2012 in January. Currently, there is a Kickstarter Project to fund the independent distribution of this film in select theaters, and on Netflix, Hulu, iTunes, and DVD. Any pledge is welcome starting at $1, and it would be super cool if their goal was reached that way more people (including myself, I haven’t seen it) would be able to see this! Their goal must be reached by their Kickstarter deadline of June 11th.
The story is based on San Diego’s music and art scene, exploring what it means to be creative in the face of tragedy. It features original music and live performances by CANINES, as well as songs from other local artists:
Here is an article about this film on the San Diego Union Tribune.
Your dad ate local, fair-trade, organic produce before you did and he’s still got the cultivation skills to prove it. With a leather tanned neck and a green thumb, he seduced Mother Earth into growing him the best vegetables anyone has ever seen. But, he wasn’t a gardener. Gardeners are old ladies with sun hats and bad knees. He was the John Wayne of farming that had a quiet confidence he could grow anything. He didn’t need even need pesticides because he was intimidating enough to keep pests away from his food babies.
So hipsters, when you’re sitting in a restaurant you found on yelp and you’re pestering the waitress to see if the tomatoes in your salad are fair-trade, locally grown, organic and sustainably farmed, remember this…
Your dad wasn’t into eating local, fair-trade, organic so that he could smugly look down upon everyone else who doesn’t. He ate that way because it just taste damn better and all he cared about was enjoying the best things in life.
